Self Portrait with Text

Purpose and Objective: Students will understand the basics of portraiture and create a self portrait that incorporates text as a source of pattern and texture, using multi-media and other surfaces to create their portrait. The overall arching concept is understanding how portraiture is used to convey meaning and emotion through expression and the background. Through this process, students will learn how to accurately draw themselves by recognizing relationships between facial features, the incorporation of the grid as a measuring device, and how to use charcoal to create value.

Vocab terms learned: The Grid, value, proportion, relationships, and different types of charcoal (willow).
